Title: How do you view Yourself?

The Bible shows us that we are not to look down on others and think too highly of ourselves. One place this is found is Philippians 2.6-4: “Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also the interests of others.” Then James adds: “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (4.6) And Proverbs 11.2 says: “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. So, if it is a sin to have exaluted or prideful thoughts about yourself, wouldn’t the inverse of that be true: that it is sinful to have despairing or negative thoughts about yourself? So where is the balance? It seems to me that we should find our significance in that fact that God called us and chose us before the foundation of the world, (Eph. 1.3-14). Who we are, and the talents we have are all gifts from God. As a result of that understanding, we really do not have anything of which we should be boastful or proud. Our attitude should be one of thanks to God for all of the things with which He has blessed us.
