Title: Memorial Day Poem

Here is a poem you may like. Sounds like it would be a Toby Keith Song... It was a Memorial day just like any other year. So I drove into town to buy some charcoal and beer. The races yesterday, man, they sure were the best. Having three days off makes for a really nice rest. I took a shortcut that took me past the old graveyard. When I saw the flags on the soldier’s graves, it hit me kinda hard. So I stopped to show respect from beside an old oak tree, And as the tears welled up I’d swear I heard them calling out to me... Remember Me, I gave my life for you. Remember Me, I died so your’d be free. Remember Me, only for one day. Don’t you see, you need to remember me? I drove on to town and picked up the things I'd need today. And that list I brought with me - I changed it along the way. I added “Buy a Flag” just to make a start. But the most important change was the attitude of my heart. Here I live where freedom rings from sea to shining sea. For over 200 years people have died so we could be free. I for one will not disrespect their sacrifice; Today I will honor the war dead, their children and their wives...as they call out... Remember Me, I gave my life for you Remember Me, I died so your’d be free Remember Me, only for one day Don’t you see, you need to remember me? (Coypright @ L. P. 2006)
