There is always so much that needs to be done. Tasks at church, writing projects, family needs, and household chores. I really don't have much time left to spend in prayer. My time can really be better spent doing other things.
How many of us would say that out loud? Probably none of us. At least, not any good, church-going Christian. We may not verbalize it, but the way we actually spend our time most days shouts it loud and clear.
I just don't think prayer is that important!!!! What has it done for me lately???
I do not have the prayer thing down. I struggle a lot of days to stay focused and spend good quality - and quantity time - in prayer. Some days I don't spend near enough time talking to God. But I keep trying. I keep sitting down every day to talk with God. Why? Because I long to connect with my Father. Because I know it's His vehicle to give me strength and peace and joy and direction. And because He told me to.
Pray is a matter of the heart, but it is also a matter of obedience. Our May memory verse tells us to pray continually (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). When was the last time you came to church-wide prayer? Are you taking advantage of the weekday, lunchtime prayer times?
I just read a great blog about this very issue on Crosswalk.com. Check it out: http://www.crosswalk.com/spirituallife/11603584/page1/
Let's get a conversation started. Why do you think we find it hard to pray? Why don't you come to church-wide prayer?
