Title: Pursuring potentially possible paths to steadily studying Scripture...

Hey I know it is hard to read the Bible every day, I'm not saying it should be hard, only that the reality of life is that left alone and unplanned it gets busy. Hectic. Crazy even, and suddenly a week has gone by and we are sitting in Sunday School feeling convicted and guilty because we are behind in our Bible reading. Let me offer you an alternative plan. This is from a respected professor and apologetics guru named J.P. Moreland. In his new book, he tells the reader what his weekly study plan looks like.

He takes one day a week and devotes an hour to an hour and a half to reading for the week. This way he is able to take the time to get into studying and meditating on the Bible and not rush through the daily reading to check a box off on a to do list. He also takes one or two days a week to spend time reading a good Christian book. And he also uses a day a week to study a commentary on a particular book that either his preacher is preaching through or his Sunday School class is studying, i.e. Isaiah because that is what we are studying in Sunday School. He has over time memorized four or five large blocks of Scripture which he reviews daily and meditates on, this is his avenue to keep his mind on God on a daily basis.

Different. Dialectic.. Diabolical? Maybe all three. But Moreland is a respected man in many fields and a role model for me, so I have been trying this approach and enjoying it. Remember that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again in the same manner, but expecting different results. So maybe try this and you won't be the one squirming guiltily in your seat during Sunday School next week.
