Wow …yesterday was what we are calling a “Well Check.” This year our church is going over the key habits of the Christian life. In January and February we looked at the role of Scripture in our lives. The challenge to the Church was to regularly read the Bible (with the goal of finishing the Bible by the end of the year) and memorize key verses each month. A large number of people participated. Yesterday we celebrated their accomplishments. It was good. The whole service was built around celebrating what people had done. The message was a recap of the key themes we have looked at over the last seven weeks. We had several people tell how the challenge impacted their lives. After the service we gathered in different rooms, (the only way to fit everyone), and had lunch together. The food was good, and the time together was even better. Fannin is a great Church.
There are two recognitions that need to be made. The first goes to Thomas for cooking all the brisket. (I don’t use last names when discussing people in the Internet). Thanks Thomas, you did a great job. Now, go take a nap. The second recognition goes to a group of people who attend the early service. This group set up everything for the lunch while the rest of us were in the late service. Thanks in particular to the class that is shepherded by Don and Cathy. Don and Cathy, you guys are such a blessing to this Church and to me personally.
This coming Sunday we will begin the next theme. It too will have a challenge for each person in the Church. The overall goal for the year is for people develop a new habit while continuing to keep in place the previous habits. By the end of the year, we hope everyone in our Church will be able to see that they have stepped up one level, or more, in their walk with God. This ‘step up’ will be assessed by comparing a test given at the beginning of the year and to the same test given at the end of the year. Pray for all those in our Church to do well.
